SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Bonner County plans to modernize its solid waste services by replacing its traditional dump sticker program with a new card-based verification system. According to County officials, the new process will make it faster and easier to confirm whether residents have already paid their solid waste fees through property taxes.

The county commissioners recently approved the addition of a voucher module to the solid waste department's point-of-sale system. This upgrade will support the new access card program, which in turn will replace the current sticker method used at county disposal sites.

The project is expected to require a one-time investment of about $93,700, along with an annual subscription cost of $1,920. Officials noted that final costs could be lower if equipment prices decline.

Under the new system, site attendants will be able to instantly verify whether a visitor is eligible for free disposal based on property tax records. Residents who pay the county's solid waste fee will continue to receive no-cost disposal of up to three cubic yards of household waste. However, others will have to pay the applicable charges.

The digital card system will also improve customer service by allowing staff to quickly deactivate lost or stolen cards and issue replacements without delays.
