SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A subsidiary of Republic Services has acquired the CDR North Landfill in Wichita, Kansas, from Cornejo & Sons, according to confirmation from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The deal marks the company’s second landfill acquisition in Kansas in recent months, reinforcing its footprint in the state.
The permit transfer to Wichita Waste Systems, a Republic affiliate, was approved on Feb. 13. The landfill’s current permit runs through April 30 and logged roughly 100,000 tons of waste in 2023, based on state data. Regulators noted no operational changes are planned as part of the transaction.

The acquisition follows Republic’s recent purchase of the Hamm Sanitary Landfill in Lawrence from Hamm Cos., strengthening its disposal infrastructure serving the Kansas City metro area. Executives said during the company’s Feb. 17 earnings call that Republic has spent $400 million on mergers and acquisitions last year, after approximately $1.1 billion in 2024.
Republic is also expanding regionally with a materials recovery facility project in Bridgeton, Missouri, positioning the company for continued growth across the Midwest waste management market.
