PRC Honoured with Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence

In the past year, the PRC drop-off activities have gathered almost half a million pounds of these materials.

6,000 families were served by PRC's hard-to-recycle program in 2024. Up to 386,000 pounds of electronics, 49,000 pounds of small appliances, 36,000 pounds of tires, and 1,410 pounds of polystyrene were gathered by the initiative. This has assisted in keeping these materials out of landfills. Toxic substances found in these products have the potential to seriously harm the environment and waterways.

Following a comprehensive evaluation procedure that included confirming the program's efficacy and the results it produced, PRC was chosen as the recipient of the esteemed award.

Commenting on the achievement, Sarah Alessio Shea, Deputy Director, PRC stated that it works hard every day to prevent waste and conserve the environment. For almost two decades, its hard-to-recycle program has offered residents with opportunities to responsibly dispose of materials that are not accepted curbside, Shea added.
