Port Angeles to Restart Glass Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Port Angeles announced its decision to restart glass recycling as a pilot program. Beginning this weekend, the city will start offering glass recycling at the Port Angeles Regional Transfer Station, 3501 W. 18th St., and the Blue Mountain Transfer Station, 1024 Blue Mountain Road. The above locations will accept glass from residents at no extra cost.

According to city new release, the pilot program will take a call after thorough analysis on the need for glass recycling in the city and the costs associated with the implementation of the program. It will collect data, which will help in developing a long-term, sustainable strategy for glass recycling. The collected data will be handed over to the City Council later this year, it noted.

It must be noted that Port Angeles had took over solid waste disposal in March this year, further to termination of contract with Waste Connections. Although it had brought much of the waste and recycling services in-house, the glass recycling services had continued to remain suspended, due to several reasons including supply chain issues. Moreover, the city had to find a contractor who would recycle all the glass collected.

The pilot program will be funded from the city’s solid waste general fund and will run for almost a year.
