SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Digimarc Corporation has announced positive results from a recycling pilot project that assessed the effectiveness of Digimarc Recycle in improving the recycling sortation of flexible plastic packaging in Canada. The project was carried out in association with the Circular Plastics Taskforce (CPT), converters and equipment supplier Pellenc ST.
The detection and sorting mechanisms for films and flexibles reported accuracy of up to 99%. It delivered consistent results irrespective of the material type, form factor, or the type of comingled waste. The CPT confirmed the exceedingly high levels of accuracy and efficiency of the technology on a SKU-level basis.
Meantime, CPT plans to implement the Digimarc technology in facilities starting next year, so as to boost enhanced separation of flexibles, which in turn is expected to lead to creation of new end-markets.
Riley McCormack, Digimarc CEO noted that the Digimarc Recycle technology offers additional capability to sort materials that cannot be done using the existing optical sorting techniques. The company is energized by the opportunity to support CPT, he added.
Digimarc Recycle overcomes the limitations of optical sorting technologies and promises better quality and quantity of recyclate.
