Plastic Bank Stopped 80 Million Kilograms of Plastic from Reaching Oceans

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Plastic Bank has encouraged communities across the world to help divert approximately 80 million kilograms of plastic from entering the oceans. The milestone was achieved during its tenth anniversary year. This is equivalent to nearly 4 billion plastic bottles.

David Katz, Founder & Chairman, Plastic Bank stated that plastic pollution cannot be solved by impact contributions and the use of recycled materials alone. A perpetual behavioural change will have great impact on planet, he added. Shaun Frankson, Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer, Plastic Bank highlighted that everyone has to take responsibility for their actions in order to create a future world where ocean plastic and poverty do not exist, he added.

Also, Benjamin Lavoie, CEO, Plastic Bank thanked communities, partners, collection members, branch owners, processors, and employees for being part of Plastic Bank’s Social Recycling movement.

Vancouver, British Columbia-based Plastic Bank is a for-profit social enterprise that builds recycling ecosystems in under-developed communities in an effort to fight ocean plastic pollution and address high poverty levels in developing countries.
