Oklahoma City Proclaims Nov. 15 as “America Recycles Day”

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, in the City Council meeting held yesterday, proclaimed Nov. 15 as “America Recycles Day”. The celebrations during the event are aimed at promoting responsible recycling in the community.

The city has been engaged in a month-long education campaign to spread awareness on the slogan “recycle right”. As part of the campaign, solid waste customers were being encouraged to recycle only those items that are accepted by the City’s curbside recycling program, thus cutting down the reusable waste that ends up in landfills. It must be noted that plastic bags were identified as the most common recycling contamination.

Several outreach efforts were undertaken by the city to promote the “recycle right” message, especially through community events, direct mail and on social media.

The “America Recycles Day” campaign will culminate with a live Q&A event on Facebook on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 6 PM.

The consistently high rating received during the annual resident satisfaction survey conducted by the City clearly demonstrates how enthusiastic the residents are about recycling, observed Chris Browning, Utilities Director. America Recycles Day is an important avenue for the city to encourage residents to recycle right, he added.

The America Recycles Day is part of a nationwide campaign by Keep America Beautiful (KAB).
