It's now a whole lot cheaper to recycle your old phones, TVs, and other electronics.
Along with the new year, comes new rules for recycling in New York State.
New Yorkers can now recycle electronics for free.
The updated state law requires manufacturers to provide free and convenient recycling of electronic waste to consumers across the state.
Before these regulations were passed, some businesses charged people for recycling anything electronic.
"You've got those big tv's , you've got those Christmas lights, you've got those old kid toys. Normally in some places you go, there could be a $5 charge, some retailers you go to could be up to a $75 charge. Now if you go to a recycling drop off spot - it's gonna be free, it's a win for the consumer. There's some changes on the back end for recyclers, but that's not gonna be something you really see, it's just a lot of shifting gears" Director of Marketing for Sunnking, Robert Burns said.
