SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A new Arkansas law governing tire disposal officially took effect on July 1, 2026. It allows tire dealers to charge customers additional fees for transporting and disposing of used tires. The new law is expected to increase disposal costs for many consumers purchasing new tires across the state.
The updated legislation, known as the Tire Management and Recycling Act (Senate Bill 606), revises existing rules that previously prevented retailers from adding separate transportation-related charges. Meaqnwhile, the state's $3-per-tire rim removal fee remains unchanged.
According to tire retailers, transportation and processing expenses have risen in recent years. Under the new law, businesses can now recover their additional expenses by introducing separate disposal or transportation fees. Many dealerships are expected to implement higher charges beginning this month.
The proponents of the bill noted that the law better reflects the actual costs of handling waste tires and provides dealers with greater flexibility to manage disposal expenses. However, they reminded consumers planning to buy new tires to check with local retailers about updated disposal and transportation fees before making a purchase.
