Little Rock, AR Approved New Recycling Contract with Waste Management

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Little Rock, Arkansas approved a new recycling agreement with Waste Management, which will be valid for a period of three years. It must be noted that the new contract is in replacement of the prior contract which came to an end on 31st March, 2024.

The new contract proposes a slight increase in rates. The rates will see a hike from $5.25 per month to $5.99 per month during the starting year. It will see further rise by 30 cents per year until 2027. The contract will allow households to recycle glass. Also, it approved a new variety of plastics-clamshell type, said the City officials.

The new equipment at Waste Management’s MRF located in east Little Rock will support glass recycling. The machine features a glass breaker unit that breaks down the material and send it away from other materials. The broken down glass is then passed through a cleaner unit, which separates remaining debris from the pure glass using a vacuum system. The glass thus obtained will be repurposed at local companies.

Jim Marcinko, a recycling director for Waste Management noted that the company is proud to be the residential recycling partner for Little Rock, North Little Rock and Sherwood.  The 3-year extension will broaden the city’s recycling potential, he added.
