Kraft Heinz to Cut Virgin Plastics Use by One-Fifth

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Kraft Heinz Company- the leading American multinational food company announced ambitious sustainability goals. The company aims to cut virgin plastics by one-fifth by 2030, when compared with 2021 baseline. This translates to reducing the use of virgin plastic by approximately 100 million pounds.

Earlier, the company had announced its goal to make all of its packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging by 2025. Furthermore, it had also reiterated its commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In line with these objectives, the company had announced its plan to replace at least 15% of its PET rigid packaging with PCR content before 2025 in the U.S.

Certain Kraft Heinz brands in the U.S. will make a transition from virgin PET to 100% recycled PET jars and squeeze bottles starting next year. The company has already transitioned from virgin PET to 30% recycled PET in most bottles in Brazil, Europe and the UK.

Linda Roman, associate director of packaging environmental social governance (ESG) and technology at Kraft Heinz noted that the company intends to transform packaging across its entire platform in pursuit of its packaging goals.
