SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Geneva residents have an opportunity to clear out old or malfunctioning holiday light strings through a seasonal recycling program available until January 31. The City of Geneva has teamed with eWorks, an electronics recycling facility based in Wheeling, to manage the collection effort.
Three sites across the community are accepting drop-offs:
Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Geneva Public Library, 227 S. Seventh St.
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, noon–5 p.m.
Geneva Park District – Sunset Community Center, 710 Western Ave.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 5:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
The collection program accepts several types of decorative lighting, including mini and Italian-style strands, C7 and C9 bulbs, rope lights, LED strings, and extension cords. Items such as garlands, wreaths, and large outdoor décor pieces are not part of the recycling effort.
City officials encourage residents to take advantage of the service as a simple way to responsibly dispose of unwanted holiday lighting.
