A smoky fire broke out just before 9:30 a.m. in a large scrap pile at Lincoln Recycling, 986 N. French St.
Firemen at the scene said initial indications were something apparently left inside a scrapped vehicle in the pile caught fire. The vehicle was being moved for processing by a clawed excavator when the pile caught fire.
No injuries have been reported.
Firemen had the fire under control before 10 a.m.
