SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning is encouraging residents to celebrate Earth Day by participating in a dedicated paint recycling initiative aimed at reducing household waste and promoting recycling and sustainability.
The proposed paint-only collection event is scheduled for April 18 in Buffalo and is open to all Erie County residents at no cost. However, officials stress that preregistration is mandatory, with appointment slots allocated on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited capacity.
The collection event is sponsored by GreenSheen, a company known for producing environmentally friendly paint from recycled materials. Accepted items include latex, oil-based, and acrylic paints, along with stains, shellacs, lacquers, varnishes, sealers, and urethanes. The initiative ensures that leftover paint is diverted from landfills and repurposed into new products.
Organizers clarified that no household hazardous waste will be accepted at this event, although additional collection programs are expected to be announced soon.
Supporting partners such as Buffalo State University and Jeremy J. Zellner underscore the region’s collaborative approach to environmental stewardship and responsible waste management.
