Decatur to resume curbside recycling services starting April 21

DECATUR, Ala. -  Curbside recycling services are set to resume in Decatur beginning Tuesday, April 21, with city officials announcing the return of blue pickup day routes for residents.

City officials say that Morgan County residents will also be allowed to resume using designated recycling drop-off sites on the same day. If you’ve been storing recyclables, please only fill your cart to the top and phase in the rest over the next few weeks.

The restart of recycling collection comes after a baler failed at the city’s recycling processing facility in March. City officials told News 19 that additional work at the city’s processing facility is ongoing, with full operations expected to resume for all partner communities in the second week of May.

“We appreciate the patience our residents have shown during this temporary pause,” Recycling Program Director Wanda Tyler said. “We are ready to begin restarting service and will continue working to bring the entire system back to full capacity in the coming weeks.”

Officials also would like to remind residents to follow proper recycling guidelines to avoid contamination, which can disrupt the collection process. The resumption marks a significant step towards restoring full sanitation services for Decatur neighborhoods while encouraging residents to take part in keeping the city clean and environmentally responsible.
