Curbside recycling ends in Auburn

AUBURN - Curbside recycling comes to an end in Auburn on Wednesday.

Moving forward, residents will be able to drop their recyclable items off at Auburn Public Works at 296 Gracelawn Road.

The recycling container will reportedly be available to residents 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. It will be located near the resident sand shed and brush drop-off area. There will also be compost bins available for those who wish to drop off compostable food waste.

Recycling will still be “single sort,” meaning residents can mix all their recyclable items together. Recyclable items must be clean, and include clear and colored glass, #1-7 plastic, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard (boxes should be flattened), newspapers and magazines, and mixed paper.

Compostable items include all food scraps, coffee grounds, filters and tea bags, dairy products, meat and bones, egg and seafood shells, fats, oils and salad dressing, paper bags and paper plates, napkins and paper towels, newspaper, and flowers and potting soil.

Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque told CBS13 at the beginning of May that collecting recycling uses a lot of gas and manpower for the roughly 7 percent of residents who are recycling.
