The County warned that improperly disposed tires can leach toxic chemicals, which contaminate soil and water. Tires are also found to provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The piles of tires also pose fire hazard, which is difficult to extinguish and lead to emission of toxic chemicals.
In addition, the County will host four household hazardous waste disposal events for county residents and small businesses. The events will be held at 1001 Claremont Road, Carlisle on April 13, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; June 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Aug. 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 26, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
