Coralville, Iowa to Launch Single-Stream Recycling Next Year

Recycling for residents in Coralville, Iowa is about to get much easier as the city prepares to launch a single-stream recycling program.

After the program launches next year, residents will no longer need to keep their types of recycling materials separate. The single-stream recycling will roll out to residents in March 2024 which will allow locals to throw all their recycling into one bin.

The new program will open up to all residents at once rather than a phased approach that other cities have taken in the past. Ellen Hable, Deputy City Administrator says this will be “a big plus.”

The new single-stream recycling process will cost Coralville roughly $600,000 that will be paid through grant funding and city dollars.

Eric Fisher, streets and solid waste superintendent, says that Coralville has been trying to implement a single-stream “for quite a while now,” and that residents have been asking for this service.

“We've all just had a lot of discussions over the years, and I think finally just everybody agreed it's time to move forward with it,” Fisher said.
