Colorado County Landfill Announced Temporary Closure

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Archuleta County, Colorado landfill announced temporary closure from 9th October to 20th October, 2023. The full re-opening is slated for 23rd October, 2023.

The temporary closure provides the landfill with an opportunity to get its damaged liner repaired. Also, the landfill will get rid of slash and scrap metal pieces and get itself prepared for the upcoming winter season. The landfill will be completely closed to the public during this period. However, it will continue to receive commercial trash trucks.

The liner, intended to prevent migration of leachate material, located in Cell 4A was damaged almost five years back, leaving the cell, unused for a long period of time. The replacement of the liner will make the cell functional. The repairs of the liner is crucial for health of not only the landfill, but also for the surrounding waterways.

The County urged residents to refrain from depositing trash on roadsides. If any such activity is spotted, residents are required to inform the Sheriff’s office, by providing the license plate information of the vehicle involved in the act. Also, it thanked its residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding.

The Archuleta County landfill is located 9179 County Road 500. Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, USA.
