The City leadership had conducted a survey among its residents, inviting opinions about how they want the curbside recycling program to be run in future. The survey was open for a period of one month from 8th January to 9th February, 2024. The authorities had promised that the feedback from residents will determine the course of policy action and that it will also play a key role in determining funding allocation for recycling.

Almost 3,000 residents took part in the survey. As per the findings of the survey, nearly 97% were found using blue recycling bins. Around 86% of the survey participants expressed willingness to pay higher fees in order to continue with curbside recycling services. The City had earlier notified about potential increase in fees.

The residents voiced their support to curbside recycling services over recycling drop-off centres in the recently held City Council meeting.

Based on the response from residents, the Director of PublicWorks stated that the City plans to move forward with curbside recycling.
