City of Mercer Island to Host Spring Recycling Event


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Mercer Island will host its annual Spring Recycling Event on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The event will be held at City Hall - 9611 SE 36th Street.

The event will offer paper shredding, but will be limited to 5 boxes per person. It will also accept white Styrofoam blocks and different coloured bagged packing peanuts. Sale of recycled plastic Rain Barrels and Compost/Worm Bins, one per visitor, priced at $25 cash each, is also scheduled. The event will accept donations in the form of grocery gift cards or cash/credit donations.

Indie Cycle to Host Electronic Waste Recycling Event This Saturday

Most items can be disposed of free, but some have a fee. For instance, air conditioners, fridge/freezer will have a disposal fee of $35. A disposal fee of $30 will be charged for mattress or boxspring, $5 for propane tanks and water heater with insulation, $15 for toilets and sinks, $3 for car tire on rim, $$9 for truck tire and $18 for truck tire on rim.

The event will not accept household hazardous waste and electronic waste such as televisions, computers and monitors.

The residents are requested to enter using the main (eastern) City Hall driveway and follow posted signage.

The event is being funded by WA State Department of Ecology, King County Solid Waste Division, Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County and WA Materials Management & Financing Authority.
