Circular Action Alliance Secured Approval for Oregon EPR Program Plan

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Circular Action Alliance (CAA) announced that it has received approval from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for its EPR Program Plan for packaging, printing and writing paper and food serviceware. This marks an important step towards implementation of the Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act (RMA), which aims to promote the state’s recycling systems.

In order to increase recycling availability, decrease plastic pollution, and improve efficiency, the EPR Program Plan seeks to undertake comprehensive steps to modernize Oregon's recycling system. It claims to give historically marginalized populations access to recycling services. In addition, it suggests enhancing collaborations across different stakeholders and launching statewide education and outreach initiatives.

The adoption of the plan paves the way for the next stage of the law's implementation, according to Kim Homes, Executive Director for CAA Oregon, who commented on the historic accomplishment. According to him, CAA is dedicated to lessening the negative effects of packaging waste on the environment, which will assist local economies greatly.

The RMA is expected to go into effect in July of this year.
