Brunswick to Switch to New Trash and Recycling Service Provider

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Brunswick is planning to switch its trash and recycling service provider from Republic Services to Kimble Recycling and Disposal Inc. The proposed change was discussed during the committee meeting held recently, said authorities. The current service provider is Republic Services, whose contract is due to expire by end-June this year.

The City had approached Republic Services to extend the existing contract with them. However, the two parties had failed to reach an agreement. Following this, the City invited bids from interested parties. The lowest and best bid offer came from Kimble. The new contract will be for a period of five years, subject to approval by the Brunswick City Council, said Toff Fischer, Finance Director.

The lowest offer of $16 million came from Kimble. The offer from Rumpke stood modestly higher at $17.2 million. The offer submitted by Republic was even higher at $17.7 million. The monthly trash and recycling service fee would see an increase from $21.25 to$23.50 per household starting July this year. The rate will see no change at least for the first three years of the contract, provided there are no significant hike in tipping fees and fuel prices.
