SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A community battery collection event in Boston has highlighted the growing importance of safe battery disposal. The event, held in West Roxbury on July 22, wasconducted through a partnership involving Casella, the National Waste and Recycling Association, ReSource Waste Services, and the Boston Fire Department.

During the one-day campaign, local residents, public officials, waste industry representatives, and safety advocates joined hands to prevent batteries from entering household trash and recycling streams. The organizers of the event stated that nearly 1,000 pounds of used batteries were collected during the event.

The collected batteries will be sent to the Battery Network, where they will be sorted before valuable materials are recovered. The batteries will be responsibly recycled.

During the event, volunteers took the initiative to educate residents about the dangers of disposing of batteries with regular household waste. The discussions highlighted the importance of using designated recycling locations, especially when incidents of battery-related fires continue to rise.

It urged consumers to promote resposible dispsal and recycling practices by recycling batteries through approved collection programs.
