Balcones Recycling to Open State-of-the-Art MRF in Texas

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of McKinney, Texas has awarded 15-year recycling contract to Balcones Resources. The contract will see Balcones Resources building and operating a $66 million facility covering nearly 120,000-square-feet outside city limits. The proposed MRF will service McKinney and surrounding North Texas communities, said city council documents.

Commenting on the development, Adam Vehik, President, Balcones Resources said that the campus will feature latest innovations in recycling technology including the most advanced sortation technology. The company has had operations in the area since early 90s. The recycling facility will bring significant environmental and economic impact to the North Texas community. The facility is expected to open its doors in the spring of 2026, Vehik added.

The recycled commodities from the facility will be marketed in North America, especially to Texas-based companies. Balcones will create nearly 53 new full-time green jobs at the facility.

The new site will feature solar panels, passive lighting, native landscaping, and electric charging stations. There will be drop-off options for recyclable materials outside of the City program.
