Aiken County Opened New Graniteville Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The new Graniteville residential collection and recycling center has officially opened its doors at 411 Connector Road late October this year. The facility, adjacent to the Barden C&D Landfill, replaces the old Graniteville residential collection and recycling center at 214 Bettis Academy Road, which has been closed now, said Gary Bunker, Chairman, Aiken County Council.

The new facility sits on a four-acre campus, as compared with the half-an-acre campus of the old one. Also, there exists less traffic in Connector Road, in comparison with Bettis Academy Road, which in turn allows easy movement for vehicles and trailers as well. It is safer and more user-friendly than the earlier site. Moreover, it offers room for potential expansion in future.

The cost of construction of the facility was around $825,000, which was partly funded by proceeds from Capital Project Sales Tax IV. The new expanded facility was necessitated by improved safety standards put forth by the County and the gradual addition to the list of residential waste to be collected for recycling.

The facility will accept residential household garbage, yard debris and recyclable waste such as cardboard, aluminum cans, tires, used oil, electronics and plastic bottles. It will be open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7 am to 7 pm.
