AES Entered Into Recycling Services Agreement with SolarCycle

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): AES- one of U.S’s largest solar asset owners announced that it has entered into an agreement with leading solar panel recycler SolarCycle. The partnership will run a pilot program to evaluate end-of-life solar panel waste across AES’s various locations. As per agreement, the retired or damaged solar panels from the facilities will be sent to SolarCycle’s Odessa, Texas recycling facility, where they will be responsibly recycled and repurposed.

The first phase of the program was launched in April, when SolarCycle transported decommissioned panels from an AES facility in Arizona to the Texas facility, to be processed to produce value-added materials.

Leo Moreno, President of AES Clean Energy noted that the agreement demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices. It is an important step in building a vibrant secondary market for end-of-life solar materials and getting closer to a domestic circular solar economy, he added.

Suvi Sharma, CEO and co-founder of SolarCycle stated that the company is excited to be working with AES on this pilot program. Such partnerships will enable development of a more sustainable and domestic supply chain for the solar industry, especially at a time when U.S. is witnessing a rapid growth in solar energy.
