SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Adams County Community Foundation, through its Adams County Fund for the Environment, announced a grant of $10,000 for Adams County to construct a glass recycling facility. The agreement was approved by commissioner. Accordingly, the county will soon open a drop-off site to collect glass for recycling, officials said.
The grant money will be used towards building a concrete pad and containment area, most probably near the Department of Emergency Services or the Adams County Prison in Straban Township. The construction works are expected to be completed in minimal time and will be done in-house.
According to Solicitor Molly Mudd, the proposed site is expected to be up and running by mid-summer this year. It will offer scheduled drop-offs for glass and will be managed by volunteer groups. The drop-off facility demonstrates the county’s support to the mission to keep glass out of landfills.
The glass from the bins will be picked up for free and recycled into new glass by CAP Glass of Mount Pleasant and RecycALL of Port Allegany.
It must be noted that glass recycling was thrown in the towel due to lack of local recycling demand and high transportation costs.
