West Warwick officials remind residents to recycle right after truck catches fire

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — West Warwick Solid Waste and Recycling is reminding residents to recycle right after the contents of the recycling truck caught on fire earlier this week.

Officials said the entire load needed to be dumped after it caught on fire.

“This not only endangered our driver but also the fire department that was called to extinguish the fire,” West Warwick Solid Waste and Recycling said on its Facebook page.

The incident blocked traffic for hours and required a cleanup of the road.

West Warwick officials remind residents to not throw away electronics of any kind, such as rechargeable batteries or propane tanks.

No one was hurt in the incident, but officials said the whole load had to be sent to the landfill as trash.
