West Daviess County’s First Renewable Natural Gas Facility Begins Operations, Marking Major Clean Energy Milestone

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A major step toward sustainable energy has been achieved as the new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility at the West Daviess County Landfill officially begins full-scale operations. The project—hailed as the region’s first of its kind—transforms harmful landfill gas emissions into clean, usable energy.

Developed through a strategic partnership between Redtail Renewables and Pacolet Milliken, the cutting-edge plant captures methane generated from decomposing organic waste. Instead of releasing the potent greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, the system refines it by removing impurities such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen. The result is pipeline-quality renewable natural gas, which can be used across transportation fleets, utility systems, and various industrial operations.

The facility boasts an impressive annual production capacity of up to 500,000 MMBtu of RNG, contributing significantly to local clean energy supply. According to estimates, the environmental benefits are equivalent to taking more than 4,000 gasoline-powered cars off the road every year, effectively reducing the county’s carbon footprint. The project has also received financial backing from Inyarek Partners, a private equity firm based in Boston, underscoring investor confidence in the region’s renewable energy potential.

Speaking about the achievement, Casey Holsapple, CEO of Redtail Renewables, said the project showcases Daviess County’s forward-looking commitment to sustainability. “This initiative not only tackles today’s environmental challenges but also paves the way for a cleaner, more resilient energy future,” Holsapple noted. He expressed gratitude to local authorities for their leadership and collaboration in advancing the project.

The West Daviess County RNG facility stands as a model for future landfill-to-energy conversions, highlighting how innovation and partnership can transform waste management into a powerful source of renewable energy.
