The goal of the Recycling Reform Act (SB 5284) is to establish a scheme for producer responsibility. After Maine, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Minnesota, the initiative would make Washington the sixth state in the union to enact legislation creating EPR for packaging. British Columbia. The EPR program holds manufacturers accountable for lowering the packaging's environmental impact. By 2030, the law aims to completely implement the EPR.

Glass, metal, paper, and plastic bottles, cans, and boxes are all covered by the law.

The state Department of Ecology, which plans to extend recycling services to an additional 500,000 houses in Washington, will be in charge of the initiative. Additionally, residents' utility bills will go down if packaging manufacturers are charged for collecting recyclable waste. It should be mentioned that in recent years, Washington's recycling utility bills have increased by over 30%.

The House of Representatives will now consider and perhaps approve the bill.
