SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Walmart Canada has announced launch of nationwide reusable bag recycling program. It has become the first major Canadian retailer to offer its customers a pilot program to recycle their reusable shopping bags.
The retailer has launched the ‘Blue Bag Recycling Program’, in partnership with TerraCycle. The program allows customers to send their their excess or damaged Walmart reusable blue shopping bags to be recycled. Once collected, TerraCycle will sort the bags. The eligible bags are donated to charity partners for reuse. The damaged bags are recycled to make new useful products, such as shipping pallets and outdoor furniture.

In order to participate in the free bag recycling program, residents can collect the resusable shopping bags at a convenient spot. They are required to sign-in online at TerraCycle website to join the program. Further, the bags need to be packaged up on April 22nd. They need to apply for a pre-paid label from TerraCycle and drop the package at UPS locations. The package must have a minimum of five bags. Also, the maximum size of the package should be 18x18x18 inches.
Earlier in 2022, Walmart Canada had eliminated single-use plastic shopping bags from their retail outlets, thereby preventing over 680 million plastic bags from circulation every year.
