TDOT Annual No Trash November Removed Nearly 70,000 Pounds of Litter


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): As part of its yearly month-long campaign, No Trash November, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reported that it had cleared about 70,000 pounds of litter from Tennessee towns. Up to 2,412 volunteers participated in the fourth annual event. Over the course of 175 cleanup efforts, 3,207 bags of litter totaling 69,776 pounds were gathered.

Residents receive points for participating in several activities, including as taking a litter quiz, going to cleanup events, and raising awareness. These points can then be exchanged for a range of benefits, such as discounts at nearby establishments.

The winners include TN Delta Alliance with 6,110 pounds, Conservation Kid in Hamilton County with 315 pounds, Donnie E. Horton Post 254 with 2,095 pounds, and Keep Knoxville Beautiful with 11,865 pounds.

TDOT Commissioner and Deputy Governor Butch Eley stated that No Trash November reaffirms Tennessee's will to unite in preserving the state's cleanliness, safety, and beauty. According to Eley, the project is a great illustration of how corporations, nonprofits, volunteer organizations, and state, county, and local governments can work together successfully.
