SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Leading industrial recycler Schupan & Sons Inc. announced opening of its new production facility near Kalamazoo. The newly opened 100,000 square feet plant will help the company meet the rising demand for recycled green aluminum, especially from the automotive sector.
The company has invested around $20 million in the facility located near the Midlink Business Park in Comstock Township. It features state-of-the-art equipment and has a processing capacity of up to approximately 50 million pounds of aluminum per year. The facility is expected to reach full production towards the end of the current month. This is the company’s eighth facility in the Kalamazoo region.
According to Schupan, the demand for green aluminum is expected to witness rapid growth, mainly from automotive, construction and beverage can sectors. The ambitious emission-reduction targets set by various governments will also support the projected robust demand growth.
In addition, Schupan is currently constructing a new beverage container recycling facility in Russellville, Kentucky. The 125,000 square foot facility is expected to commence production later during the year.
