SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Richmond is launching a pilot program for mattress and box spring recycling as part of Richmond E-Cycle Day.
Richmonders can drop off their old mattresses and box springs at 1710 Robin Hood Road starting Sunday, Sept. 15. They must be placed in the designated area in the recycle container and they will not be accepted if they are wet, heavily soiled or have bed bugs, according to the city.
Mattresses and box springs will also be accepted on Richmond E-Cycle Day itself. As always, Richmonders will be able to safely dispose of other household items during Richmond E-Cycle Day, including electronics, sensitive documents and paint.
Proof of residency in Richmond is required to take part in Richmond E-Cycle Day, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the northeast corner of Robin Hood Road and Arthur Ashe Boulevard, just north of the Arthur Ashe Junior Athletic Center.
