SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Even after a protracted bargaining session with a federal mediator on Tuesday to discuss a contract for its Boston-area workers, Republic Services and Teamsters Local 25 were unable to come to an agreement. The union turned down the company's offer to reopen talks.
Since the workers' strike began on July 1, 2025, this is the second negotiation session. Since then, about 2,000 Republic Services workers have been impacted by strikes announced by four other union chapters. It should be mentioned that the Teamsters have expanded their picket lines to include Youngstown, Ohio, and Los Angeles.

Some municipal authorities have offered the striking union members their support in the interim. A resolution extending their support has been unanimously passed by the Boston City Council. In addition, municipal council members wrote to the Republic CEO to voice their worries about the service interruption. William Galvin, the secretary of state for Massachusetts, also expressed worry about the strike action, which has caused up to 14 communities to experience operational disruptions.
On important subjects like healthcare, pension plans, and employee compensation, the two sides have been unable to reach a consensus.
