Recycling Make-Up Days for Township, Fieldsboro Start Thursday

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Recycling make-up days for residents of Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro begin on Thursday.

Burlington County will collect recycling in Bordentown Township beginning on Thursday, June 17 and will continue through Friday, June 18, according to the County. Fieldsboro residents will have their recycling picked up on Thursday, June 17.

Bordentown City's Public Works Department picked up recycling in the City on June 9 and will once again provide recycling collection to City residents next week on Wednesday, June 23.

Bordentown Township Mayor Stephen Benowitz last week addressed the County-wide delays in recycling pickup due to driver shortages and is urging residents to utilize the Township's recycling center as the County continues to deal with the situation.

"Unfortunately, and frustratingly, there is very little we as the Township have under our control in this situation," said Benowitz. "We do not have the equipment or manpower to be able to pick up recycling Township wide. Likewise, our household garbage contractor, Central Jersey Waste, does not have the resources to pick up recycling in addition to picking up bulk items and weekly household garbage, even for an additional fee to the Township."

"The Township has also offered the services of our Public Works employees with the requisite licensing to the County to drive their unmanned vehicles," Benowitz continued. "Due to liability concerns, that offer was denied by the County."

Township officials have been told that the County is adding additional trucks and drivers to their staff as quickly as they can, and that regularly scheduled recycling pickup is anticipated to start back up on July 5.

In the meantime, Township officials are encouraging residents to utilize the Township's recycling center, located at 266 Crosswicks Street, to drop off their recyclables, noting that it is one of the few facilities of its kind in Burlington County. Residents can bring any recycling to the facility Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM and on Saturdays from 9AM to 2PM. The Township will have Public Works staff available to help residents as much as possible unload any recycling.
