Marion County centers recycle nearly 750,000 pounds of furniture, tires, electronics in June


Recycling centers across Marion County collected over 500,000 pounds of furniture, over 115,000 pounds of tires, and over 70,000 pounds of electronic waste during the month of June. 

The information was presented as part of the Solid Waste Operations Report during the Marion County Commission meeting on Tuesday, August 3. 

According to the report, recycling centers across the county collected over 273 furniture tons, or 547,560 pounds, during the month of June. Among the centers, the Canal Recycling Center (457 SE 110th Street in Ocala) collected over 135,000 pounds of furniture and over 27,000 pounds of tires. 

Five Marion County recycling centers collected a total of 34 tons, or 68,000 pounds, of electronic waste.

Over 42,000 pounds of electronics were recycled in the city of Ocala during the month of June, with nearly 20,000 pounds collected at Newton Recycling Center (1750 NW 100th Street).

Just under 18,000 pounds of electronic waste were recycled at the Baseline Recycling Center. At the Martel Recycling Center, which is located at 296 SW 67th Avenue in Ocala, residents recycled 5,600 pounds of electronics during the month of June. 

The Weirsdale Recycling Center collected nearly 8,000 pounds of electronic waste from residents. That center is located at 13535 SE 164th Street in Weirsdale. 

Over 17,000 pounds of electronics were collected at the Dunnellon Recycling Center, which is located at 4232 US-41. 

Marion County and City of Ocala residents may recycle old or unneeded household electronics at any one of the seven centers.
