Lifezone Metals Partners with Glencore on New U.S. Recycling Plant


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Lifezone Metals Limited- a leading metals company announced that it has signed a term sheet with a subsidiary of Glencore plc to launch a recycling plant for platinum group metals (PGMs) in the U.S. The project will focus on recycling of platinum, palladium, and rhodium using Lifezone’s proprietary ‘Hydromet’ hydrometallurgical technology.

The phase-1 confirmatory piloting work has already commenced in Perth, Australia, which uses Hydromet to recover PGMs from responsibly sourced spent automotive catalytic converters.

According to Chris Showalter, Chief Executive Officer, Lifezone Metals, the application of the Hydromet technology will ensure recovery in a cleaner and more efficient manner when compared with traditional smelting and refining process.

Commenting on the new partnership, Glencore is a world-class partner with exceptional market reach, which in turn will help position its U.S. recycling plant favourably with regards to financing and marketing of finished PGMs. The ongoing confirmatory pilot project is expected to further validate its Hydomet capabilities. In view of the rapidly growing market, the proposed U.S. facility would be highly replicable and scalable, he added.
