Keokuk residents got a chance to get rid of their unwanted belongings and help the environment Tuesday at the city's annual recycling day.
Officials said nearly 400 cars came out to drop off everything from old bikes to electronics to paper.
Organizers said it's a free, easy and environmentally friendly way to get rid of troublesome garbage like old electronics.
"Those large televisions that you have can cost up to $40 to 60 to recycle and even those monitors they cost up to $10 to 20 and so instead of people paying to have them recycled they want to and dump them in the landfill and so it's for us we'd rather have them get recycled," Keokuk Chamber executive director Shelley Oltmans said.
Oltmans said they picked up two and a half semi loads of electronics, one trailer load of paper and one trailer load of hazardous materials.
