Spring is the ideal season for cleaning out and discarding unused or outdated items throughout the home. The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability, also known as Sustain Indy, will hold a free recycling event on April 23 at Krannert Park for unwanted electronics.
“Some of the items that you can bring to recycle are cell phones, computers, laptops, tablets, any appliances, gaming systems and accessories, hair dryers,” Department of Public Works Public Information Officer Imani Keith said. “Really, a good rule of thumb to think about is if it has a cord, you can bring it.”
Indiana’s Electronic Waste law prohibits discarding electrical items in the trash. An earlier Sustain Indy recycling opportunity was successful.
“We had one previously in January, where about 600 residents came and brought over 60,000 pounds of recycled items. So, we are expecting a large amount of items and you can bring as many as you'd like,” Keith said.
Residents should remain in their cars for the drive-through event. On-site workers will direct traffic and remove the items from vehicles. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
