Green Li-ion Launched Commercial-Scale Plant to Process Battery Waste

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Green Li-ion- the leading lithium-ion battery recycling technology company announced launch of the first-of-its-kind commercial-scale plant that processes unsorted battery waste to produce recycled lithium-ion engineered battery materials using patented technology. The plant is located within an existing recycling facility in Atoka, Oklahoma.

Currently, the recycling process for spent lithium-ion batteries in North America sorts batteries before shredding. These are then processed into black mass and further into sulfates. The materials are then exported for further processing to facilities in overseas destinations, mainly to China and South Korea.

However, Green Li-ion’s patented technology enables direct conversion of recycling scrap into battery-grade precursor cathode active material, which do not need to be exported for further processing. The patented technology promises significantly reduced production times and notable environmental benefits by way of considerably less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Commenting on the milestone development, Leon Farrant, CEO and Co-Founder of Green Li-ion noted that the installation will help to close a critical gap in the North American battery recycling supply chain.
