SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Goochland County has announced a special recycling initiative aimed at helping residents safely dispose of household hazardous waste and securely destroy sensitive documents. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Secure Document Shredding event will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairground Property, 2744 Fairground Road.

The event is open exclusively to Goochland County residents. Officials noted that space for hazardous waste collection will be limited, encouraging participants to arrive early.

Accepted items include fluorescent tubes and CFL bulbs, solvents, degreasers, cleaners, flammable liquids, pesticides, herbicides, aerosols, art and hobby supplies, photographic chemicals, and devices containing mercury such as thermometers and certain pool or spa chemicals.

In addition, secure on-site document shredding will be available for up to five banker’s boxes per person. Each box must not exceed 12” x 24” in size. Documents with paper clips and staples will be accepted; however, plastic bindings must be removed prior to drop-off.

County officials say the initiative supports environmental protection while helping residents safeguard personal information responsibly.
