Garbage, recycling collection in Hamilton cancelled due to winter storm

The City of Hamilton cancelled garbage collection on Monday (Jan. 17) as weather conditions continue to deteriorate across the city.

In a press release, the City asked residents, whose regular pick up is Monday, to hang on to their garbage and recycling materials until their regularly scheduled pick up next Monday (Jan. 23).

“The bag limit for waste will be increased to two bags before needing trash tags for residents who do not receive waste pick-up today,” the City notice said.

Updates throughout the snow event will be posted on the City’s Twitter and website.

Hamilton is currently under a blizzard warning as winds gusting up to 60 km/h throughout the day will reduce visibility to near zero at times without warning.

Anywhere between 30 to 50 cm is expected to fall by the time the low-pressure weather system responsible for this winter storm passes by the area later Monday.
