Fresh Proposal for Riverview Landfill Expansion Faces Opposition

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The revived plan for expansion of the Riverview Land Preserve landfill is seen facing strong opposition from area residents. The last date for submission of written comments about the proposal is 7 November, 2022.

The area residents will be provided a chance to attend a meeting of the Wayne County Facility Inclusion Committee 1 p.m. Nov. 14 at Arnaldo’s Banquet Center, 18275 Quarry Road, Riverview, where they could express their opinions regarding the landfill expansion proposal.

The Wayne County Solid Waste Planning Division and Facility Inclusion Committee had recently approved a report outlining several steps that Riverview ought to take before approving the new plan. The major concerns are with regards to relocating the landfill’s main entrance off King Road, maintaining minimum isolation distance from off-site water bodies and providing a commitment to either ensure curbside recycling or set up a second recycling drop-off center in the city.

Meantime, the city of Trenton and Brownstown Township’s Board of Trustees have separately voiced their objection to the proposal that would expand the existing Riverview landfill site.
