Eramet to Inaugurate Pilot EV Battery Recycling Plant

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Eramet announced plan to inaugurate a pilot plant for recycling electric vehicle batteries. The plant will be located at its Research & Innovation center close to Paris (Trappes). The plant is scheduled to start its operations in 2027, subject to final investment decision, which is expected before end of next year.

The pilot plant is an important phase of the joint project implemented in partnership with SUEZ, which aims to offer a closed-loop industrial recycling solution for end-of-life batteries and scrap produced during manufacture of new batteries.

The Eramet Research & Innovation Center has developed a process that can infinitely recycle more than 90% of the strategic metals contained in the black mass of end-of-life batteries and in the scrap from battery manufacturing process. The pilot plant will test and optimise the extraction and refining of these metals on a pre-industrial scale.

The European Union's Innovation Fund and BPI has offered financial support amounting to €80 million through its "Critical Metals Call for Projects". The funds will be used to finance pre-industrialisation studies and to meet the construction and operating costs of the plant for a period of ten years.
