Danvers To Host 'Zero Waste' Earth Day Recycling Event


DANVERS, MA — Danvers will help celebrate the spirit of Earth Day with a wide-ranging "Zero Waste" recycling day on May 7.

The daylong event in the Danvers High School parking lot on Cabot Street will give residents the opportunity to recycle everything from clothing to electronics to large metal and rigid plastic items.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in collaboration with Simple Recycling, BoxQ and JRM.

Simple Recycling will collect textiles such as clothing, shoes, purses, linens, comforters and boxed or bagged household items.

BoxQ will collect electronic equipment and accessories with the exception of light bulbs, ballasts and batteries. Computers, laptops, keyboards, mice, cables, wires, routers, cell phones and small appliances can be recycled for free.

Computer monitors are $10, printers and copiers are $10, freon appliances (air conditioners) are $25, televisions are $30 and stereo equipment is $5 per unit. Check payments can be made to BoxQ Inc.

Other appliances such as stoves, clothes washers, dryers and dehumidifiers may be disposed of with the Metals at no charge.

JRM will also accept metal file cabinets, grills, bicycles, hangers, appliances, patio furniture, curtain rods, doors, ironing boards, ladders and other similar items.

JRM will also shred paper with the first two boxes free and $5 for each subsequent box. Cash only will be accepted for paper shredding with money donated to the Danvers Community Council.

Rigid plastics, such as trash barrels, buckets, tubs, bins and outdoor furniture, can also be dropped at no charge.

Compost bins are available for $25. Recycle bins are $5 each for 18-gallon bins and $40 for a 32-gallon bins.

Cub Scout Pack 16 will be collecting bottles and cans from 8 a.m.. to 1 p.m.
