SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Salem, in association with Salem State University will host a “Zero Waste Weekend” from Friday, March 22nd to Sunday, March 24th. The event aims to encourage residents and students learn to minimize waste and embrace sustainable practices.
As part of the event, free waste assessments for local businesses will be held by appointment on Wednesday, March 20th. The entire assessment process will take about 30-45 minutes. The businesses will be given a summary report. In addition, they will be provided guidance on starting or improving upon waste reduction programs.

Salem State University Zero Waste Swap will be held Friday, March 22nd, 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM at Ellison Campus Center (ECC) Alumni Plaza. The public is requested to drop off their items at ECC lobby from 12:30 – 6:00 pm on Thursday March 21st or bring items to the event on Friday. The items accepted include clothes, shoes, books, office supplies, dorm décor and small dorm room items.
An e-waste recycling drive thru event is planned on March 23rd Salem High School, 77 Willson Street 8:00AM -12:00PM. A document shredding drive thru event will be held on the same day at Horace Mann Laboratory School, 79 Willson Street 8:00AM -12:00PM. Also, SalemRecycles Free Book Swap & TerraCycle Collection is scheduled to be held at Community Life Center, 401 Bridge Street 10:00AM - 1:00PM. A litter clean up event will be held on Sunday, March 24th 10:00AM - 12:00PM at Gallows Hill Park.
