City of Gary, IN Launched New Recycling Drop-Off Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): On February 1, 2025, the City of Gary, Indiana, began a new recycling drop-off service. The program's goal is to provide citizens with free drop-off facilities for recyclables collected throughout the city.

The Gary Sanitary District's Executive Director, Ragen Hatcher, stated that the City of Gary's Public Works Department will be in charge of overseeing the recycling containers and the drop-off program.

Part of the reason for the switch to a drop-off recycling approach is the challenge of continuing the home recycling pickup because of the growing expenses involved. It should be mentioned that other nearby communities have previously demonstrated the effectiveness of the drop-off recycling strategy.

Hatcher claimed that by making prudent use of the existing monies, the inhabitants will receive excellent care. He thought the new scheme would make recycling more financially and environmentally viable.

Recycling containers will be available at four drop-off locations in Gary starting February 1, 2025: Grand Blvd. and Miller Avenue, 900 Madison Street (City of Gary General Services site), 3600 West 3rd Avenue (Gary Sanitary District site), and 3506 Village Court (Northwest Parking Lot, GPTC site). Paperboard, cardboard boxes, paper, and clean plastic can all be recycled by locals.
