Christmas tree recycling in Sonoma Valley

The best way to ensure your Christmas tree doesn’t end up in a landfill is by recycling it. Luckily, the Sonoma Valley Girl Scouts’ annual fundraiser is all about helping households recycle those trees.

The scouts will be doing regular pick ups around Sonoma and Glen Ellen over the next three Saturdays, Jan. 1, 8 and 15. Kenwood pick ups are possible with an appointment.

To participate, simply put your tree out on the curb by 9 a.m. on Saturday. Leave a donation (suggested $10 per tree, with checks made out to Girl Scouts) under your doormat. Reservations are not necessary unless you live in a rural area or Kenwood. Be sure to remove all ornaments.

The Girl Scouts will not take trees with decorations, tinsel, or flocking. They also will not take wreaths or garland, which can’t be recycled due to the hardware that holds them together.

Five local Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador troops will be participating this year, and all money raised supports their special projects around the community.
